Staying Above the Chaos

I {puffy} heart organization.

I feel sooooo much better when I'm organized.

I'm also kind of OCD - things have to look good and match. I've noticed many of you are the same way when it comes to that. :D

I have a little routine when it comes to planning.
  1. I do my year plan in August.
  2. Then every 4 weeks I look at my previous year's weekly plans and make changes where necessary. They are on my computer so it is very easy to pull them up and make adjustments for the different kiddos I have each year, or to add something new - whatever the case may be.
  3. I get together everything I need for that month.
  4. I print out those 4 different weekly plans and set them out on a table.
  5. I take all the materials for the month and match them to the week plan in which I will use them.
  6. I put the week plan on top of each stack of materials and set the group in my cabinet.
  7. On Friday afternoons, I pull out the following week's stack and match up the materials to each day. I have file folders for each day - sometimes tubs if there is a lot.
  8. After everything is in the correct folder, I clip the week plan on top of Monday's folder. At the end of the day on Monday, I move it to Tuesday... and so on.
This picture shows my folders and that week's work. That's my weekly plan for last school year sitting on top of the stack. It's a necessity. And I love the organization of it all. :D Not only does it detail my schedule/plan for the week, it also details my objectives for the primary curricular areas.

I've posted about this before - and was asked - a lot - if I could share my plans. I wanted to, but I also wanted everyone to be able to personalize them with their own colors and fonts - not those ugly - no color, Arial or Times New Roman only kind of plans.

So, I've been working.

And....

I FINALLY finished my weekly lesson plan program so that I can share it with all of you. And let me tell you I am very excited.

My weekly plans, like my year plan, are an essential part of my teacher organization life.

I truly love this program. It is Microsoft Excel based - but it is simple to use, even if you are not too familiar with Microsoft Excel.

The file contains 9 different pre-made plan color schemes. Here are some samples:
"Ocean"
"Black & White"
"Yellow & Black"
"Pastels"
"Primary"
"Red & Black"
"Sherbert"
"Sunset"
"Black & Teal/Turquoise"
The cool thing is - if none of these fit EXACTLY what you want, it's ok! The planners are editable so you can change the color and... THE FONTS. Yep... use whatever font you want. If you are like me, it's the font that makes all the difference.

If you are nervous about using Excel. Don't be. I've included very detailed, step-by-step, easy to follow instructions to help you create your own perfect plans.

The Ultimate Weekly Planner program creates adorable, customizable weekly plans that are not only beautiful, but highly functional.

Writing out lesson plans can be very time-consuming. Utilizing this program to create your weekly plan will help you:
  • Save time - the repetitive part of your daily routine is saved, no need to add it over and over again, year after year.
  • The plans are saved on your computer. They can be used year after year. Copied, changed, re-created... you decide! There is no need to reinvent the wheel each year, or keep months of paperwork on hand or filed away.
  • The planner creates and saves an entire year's worth of plans in one place. You can access a specific week's plans with a simple click.
  • You personalize it to your tastes in color and fonts
I am really excited to finally be able to share these with you all.

It took some time to make it useable & editable by everyone - but it was worth it.

I'm giving a copy away to a follower who comments on this post. I'll do a random drawing this weekend. {Be sure your email is linked to your Blogger info or leave it in the post so I can contact you. :D} Congrats Sara!

Go check it out - I really think you will LOVE it!

How do you feel about organization? Are you obsessed with it? Is your day affected if you feel unorganized? Or does it feel stifling? Are you one of those who shine in the chaos? {I definitely do not shine in chaos... I tend to crumble, crack and shake a tad.}

  1. Oh, WOW. Beautiful. So, so organized. We are so old school and still write our lesson plans by hand. So sad! We need to get on board with the computer age. These are awesome.

We thrive off organization, but it isn't always as easy to maintain, especially when we get busy.

  3. I like this format - love having the weekly objectives in each area over to the side and easily visible. I think I could make this work in my resource room - not easy to use traditional planner formats with so many levels but I think having it on computer would allow me to keep a section for each grouping of skills. Love the idea of having it on the computer so I can cut, paste, and edit each year but not have to recreate.

  6. I am inspired! You're right, doing this on computer is so much better. At my school, we have to turn in our lesson plans at the end of the year and they get archived. This way I'd always have them, and also just be able to turn them in on a CD.

  12. Thank you for the reminder. I used to do that when I taught in a classroom (with the folders). I only did a week at a time, but I am going to try to plan the month as you suggested.
I do like your excel book though. I used to use excel as well. Now I use planbook.com to create my lesson plans. So, if you get my random number please choose someone else (just an FYI). Amy

  29. I've been trying to do something similar with my plans for the past few years in Word using drop-down boxes in the Developer ribbon to eliminate some of the repetitive work that we do year after year, but instead of being able to consolidate my plans to one page, I seem to be expanding to more than two pages this year! I need to work on that. :-P

How would you handle not having a consistent schedule each day with the program that you have created? For example, many of us would have specials at different times of the day, or only on certain days... or only be able to teach certain subjects on certain days. This is something I have struggled with when I've tried to streamline my plans.

    Thank you!

    1. Word is very limiting in that regard. That's why I use Excel.

You can change the plans around as much as you want. For example, if on Week #7 your "Specials" runs into your normal routine "Writing" block.. simply go to week #7 and change that time period to say "Specials". You can put into it whatever you'd like, wherever you'd like. :D

Monday's order of curricular areas can be completely different from Tuesdays... and so on.

      I hope this helps. :D

    1. Hi Chelsea... I LOVE your little Goggle image... looks like my boxer, Louie. :D
I'm assuming you mean team/partner teaching. Using a "cloud" storage system, like the free program DropBox is ideal for team teaching. Everyone can access files placed there, edit them, and save them again. That way the whole team has access to the latest file and no one person is responsible for the whole thing. Everyone pitches in. I would sit down as a team and create the skeleton of what you want your plans to look like. Save it to DropBox and then you all can access it and change it anytime you want. DropBox will always have the latest copy. Does this help? I was going to email you but your email isn't attached to your Blogger info. Email me if you have anymore questions. :D
